PFLC April 7, 2020 Ludeman COVID-19 Status Update

Hello PFLC Parents and Friends,
The current information we have regarding the Ludeman Center Update Status for COVID-19:
Ludeman is currently conducting COVID-19 testing and supportive processes.
* 12 residents have tested positive via the COVID-19 testing process. The individuals are in isolation.
* 13 Ludeman employees who have tested positive via the COVID-19 testing process and are currently off work and coordinating their isolation and care with their medical providers.

* 23 residents have recently been tested and are in isolation from others due to potential COVID-19 symptoms. That they have potential symptoms does not mean that they are COVID-19 positive.  Medical personnel are continually evaluating these individuals.

* 4 Ludeman homes are now in isolation due to exposure or possible exposure to COVID-19.
Remember Ludeman Center staff are calling families directly to inform you if your loved one is diagnosed with COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19.
Ludeman is following the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Heath (IDPH) guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each center has a designated infection control employee, along with medical personnel that provide on-site support to manage COVID-19. We are consulting daily with an infection control group to review COVID-19 and to provide centers with guidance to maximize both resident and staff safety.
The Ludeman Center is in need of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
If you know someone, a business, or an organization that can provide masks, please send them to Lisa Robinson, Facility Director at 114 N. Orchard Drive, Park Forest, IL 60466.Some suggestions are your Doctor, Veterinarian, and Dentist offices, or anyone that works in an environment that might be willing to donate some of their supplies.

PFLC – April 3rd & 5th Updates

Hello PFLC Friends and Families,

PFLC has posted additional updates on our webpage, so be sure to visit the April 3rd and 5th Updates on our website home page, ludemanpflc.org/

Now that the Ludeman Center can accept packages, PFLC has been using your generous donations to order in-house activities for the Ludeman home-bound residents.  The shipments are trickling in to the Ludeman Center and will be distributed to the Neighborhood House Units 1, 2, and 3 for the residential homes.

PFLC has purchased three iPads. The Ludeman Center is in the process of setting up the iPads so you can Face Time, Whats App, or Skype with your loved one.  Each Neighborhood House Units 1, 2, and 3 will receive one iPad.  As a parent and/or guardian, you will have the opportunity to set up an appointment to chat/video with your loved one at Ludeman.  As soon as the iPads are ready, we will post the instructions to make an appointment.

What can you do?

  1. Send Thank You cards to the Ludeman Center Staff, Administration and Support at Ludeman Developmental Center, 114 N. COVID-19 – Ludeman Updates

March 31, 2020 Update

Six (6) Ludeman residents and seven (7) Ludeman employees have now tested positive for COVID -19.

All six residents reside in a single home.  At least one of these residents has been hospitalized. As a guardian you would have already been contacted by the Center if your loved one lives in this home.

No staff who has been working in the effected house will be working with residents from any other Ludeman home.  We are informed that staff has the necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in the home including N-95 masks for those providing medical treatment.

Remember we have been assured that as guardians you will always be directly contacted if a Ludeman home your loved one lives in has had a known exposure to COVID-19.

PFLC – VOR Action Alert – Funding

Hello PFLC Parents and Friends,

The VOR organization again has requested our help to oppose The Disability Integration Act that congress is planning to vote into law.

Don’t Exclude Non Profit HHS Organizations from Coronavirus Relief

“The Disability Integration Act (DIA) is a seriously flawed bill. While the intention of the bill is to provide services for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it would eliminate existing services provided to the most severely impacted members of this population, and moving these individuals from their long-term homes into more isolated settings that provide fewer services, lower staffing ratios, and lower standards of care.”

This bill would detrimentally impact federal funding that is provided today to Developmentally Disabled centers such as Ludeman.

Please use your voice in these trying times to prevent a legislative bill that would not benefit our loved ones that live at the Ludeman Center.

Click on the link and another line will appear.  The line below will connect you to the VOR page so you can send the pre-filled letter to your legislators.

Thank you for supporting our Developmentally Disabled community!

Oppose Inclusion of MFP in Coronavirus Relief Bill

PFLC Logo 2020

Hello PFLC Parents and Friends,

We need your voice to protect the facilities such as the Illinois State Operated Developmental Centers to continue to receive appropriate federal funding for operations. MFP, also known as Money Follows the Person, is an attempt to divert funding from Developmentally Disabled facilities like Ludeman.

As noted below from the VOR Organization (Voice of Reason):

“The ARC and other advocacy groups are lobbying Congress to include permanent reauthorization of MFP in the Coronavirus Relief Bill.  VOR is deeply troubled that these organizations seek to take advantage of a national crisis in this way.

We are concerned that MFP is being used by these groups to close all large facility-based care, such as Intermediate Care Facilities, rather than as a voluntary program to assist in the case by case transition of individuals who are capable of living in community settings and who choose to access community services.”

                                                Protect Federal Funding

“MFP policy directly affects the health and welfare of our country’s most vulnerable citizens who reside in facility-based settings.  It is not appropriate to hastily push through such policy in a time of crisis, particularly when that policy calls for the relocations of fragile individuals with underlying health conditions to less supportive settings.  Medicaid service systems are already stretched to the limit.

Please act now to tell Congress to oppose reauthorization of MFP through the Coronavirus Relief Bill.  MFP policy deserves careful consideration through the Congressional committee process that includes testimony from families of disabled individuals affected by MFP.”

Click on the Protect Federal Funding link in this message to send your letter to your Elected Officials in Congress to oppose adding the reauthorization of MFP in the Coronavirus Relief Bill.  A pre-formatted letter as well as an easy-to-use tool will automatically insert your Elected Officials name and address into your letter.

Thank you!
